Previously, western digital has introduced My Book LX which also compatible with Mac. My Book LX has LED display in front side, while My Book studio has no LED Display in front side to display the free space on hard disk capacity. Product with 3TB capacity uses interface USB 2.0 and firewire 800. Firewire is a good interface to do video editing or when you do intensive data activity.
Test done on Mac platform with AJA system test and Xbench. Through AJA test, result found write speed 69.5 MB/s and read 64.0 MB/s in interface firewire 800. While through interface USB 2.0, write speed 29.8 MB/s and read 37.2 MB/s. AJA system test usage is because this application is feature disable file system cache so it gives more accurate result.
Xbench application is chosen since it has feature test sequential and random. Write 31.13 MB/s also read 35.88 MB/s number is produced in random mode. Both result is found by using USB 2.0. interface when using firewire 800 interface, CHIP gets write 75.42 MB/s and read 74.84 MB/s result in sequential mode. Write 65.07 MB/s and read 31.98 MB/s is found in random mode.
My Book studio 3TB has green miser feature. Each hard disk used in My Book studio is designed for energy friendly. WD Greenpower Technology planted decreased power when idle, then culture power saving made this hard disk on as the computer condition. It’s also one reason why this western digital My Book studio 3TB has no power button.
Western digital My Book studio 3TB also defend the temperature kept, although it doesn’t use fan in usage. As fan replacement, this product has good ventilation hole, so the air still flow well. Aluminum Enclosure used also helps to keep hard disk temperature.
