Razer which already famous with their gaming product, return to add gaming audio product lines they owed which can be used on PC and XBOX 360, which is Razer Chimaera 5.1 which is a renewal of Razer Chimaera line.
When you release this headset from its box, you can meet an attractive complete headset with base station. Razer Chimaera 5.1 covered with black-matte material on its headset and black-glossy on its base station.
In its headset, you can find Reazer logo in its earcup and Reazer text on the headband. Besides, this Razer Chimaera 5.1 earcup has circumaural design. This design itself covered all your ear and claimed able to minimize noise from outside. This Reazer headband also has ten level of setting for head size. In left earcup, there’s a flexible mic which can be muted automatically if it folded up. Besides, there are also power button, mic mute, and mic volume setting. It’s also different with its right earcup, here there’s a mode button functioned to activate 1.5 channels of surround sound, sound mute button (combination with synchronization button) and headset volume setting button.
Different with its predecessor which has setting button on rear side of base station, Razer Chimaera 5.1 has three setting buttons on front side of its base station. The three buttons are equalizer, power, and synchronization button combined with source button. While on the rear side of base station, there are digital audio in port, digital audio out port, 3,5 mm in, 3,5 mm out, Rca port, and power port.
Sound character produced is balanced enough between bass and treble sound characters. It would be felt more if you activate 5.1 channel of surround sound when playing first person shooter game.
This Razer Chimaera 5.1 has been equipped with 5.1 channel Dolby surround sound. Besides, wireless frequency used is also different. If Razer Chimaera uses 2.4 GHz frequency, this Razer Chimaera 5.1 uses 5.8 GHz frequency. By using the frequency, it’s expected that the interference frequency would be decreased (commonly, wireless devices used 2.4 GHz frequency). There are still other additional features, they are equalizer and dedicated local voice channel. It has functioned to do chat on XBOX 360 through XBOB live. This technology is done by connecting one base station with another base station. But unfortunately, to pay the technology, its battery durability decreased from previous series (eight hours).
